The Department of Library & Information Science was established in 2004.

Keeping in view the demand, M.L.I.Sc. course is being offered under Self-finance Scheme. As a part of course Computer Practical Training, Library Automation, in house training, seminar presentation, visits to various libraries, submission of library internship report are some of the salient features of the course.  In addition, certain soft skills such as, group discussions,  communication skills classes, mock interview and resume preparation are also imparted to meet the challenges after the completion of MLISc.  Department encourages students visit libraries in New Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad  and Chennai to have practical exposure to services offered by reputed institutions and Universities.

To provide higher educational opportunity to those who missed the opportunity of taking advantage of conventional mode of learning,

Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLISc)  and

Certificate in Library and Information Science (CLISc) in distance mode is offered by School of Distance Learning and Continuing Education (SDLCE).

Many students pursuing and upgrading their educational qualifications.

Department ever since its inception continues to play its role of leadership in Library and Information Science education. Under the Headship of Prof. Ramanaiah it ws started and grew from strength to strength.  In order to keep pace with the changing and complex needs of libraries and Information in the country, the Department has revised its syllabus to introduce new areas of study in library and information science its curriculum. Department revised its syllabi in 2010 on par with UGC both in B.L.I.Sc. & M.L.I.Sc..
